Jett - Steampunk Mercenary (Realtime)

Hi everyone!
This was a playable character created for BYU's 2025 student video game SKYGUARD.
Real-time rendered in UE.
Total Tri's: 66K
On this small student production, I was able to act as character artist and director for the project. The production experience was incredible and we grew so much as a team and artists. Balancing a mercenary and steampunk aesthetic was a fun challenge. I also made the masks the characters wear in game. We decided to give it a spray-painted xenomorph design for the mouth area.
Special thanks to Megan Fisher https://www.artstation.com/meganpecan as we worked together giving feedback on each others characters throughout the production.

256X256 detail normal Texture array I created for the production.
The normal texture array sampling was driven by packed user data stored in the ORM map. Custom channels were used to define tiling regions, allowing the shader to dynamically tilers.

Used Detail Normal arrays with 8 low res normal maps overlayed in order to reduce texture lookup/drawcalls and still retain crisp micronormal detail.
